Locality Pathways
for Socio-Economic
Resilience
Our approach of working with women collectives together with panchayats, first piloted in Rajpur, Barwani
gave learning, insights and confidence to make the approach as core to community engagement.
In 2022 the approach was expanded to all the action pilot geographies of TRIF and systematic effort was
made to consolidate the learning into a protocoled guidebook to place this approach to stakeholders.
Pandemic also showed that deepening grassroots democracy, action by local-communities and local
leadership are better equipped to deal with such crisis. Local neighbourhood community response
systems, especially providing space for women leaders and panchayats play complementary roles being
engaged with frontline public systems.
We have pivoted all our ground engagement with focus on building capacities for local level preparedness,
better healthcare, entitlements and economic development. These efforts in our understanding will
strengthen democratic processes and economic opportunities. Implementation with women collectives
embedded within national livelihood program, building on TRIF’s presence in communities and partnership
with the government lends to bringing gender-intentionality and opportunities for informing national
policies and replication.
The “approach prototype” has been well-validated showing results in the blocks
in Madhya Pradesh and also during better delivery and uptake of public schemes
as the government declared new schemes and expanded outlays for many critical
schemes as welfare measures and economic stimulus for the poor including
benefits in case of death. The tech-enabled mechanisms were not easy to handle
in the remote locations and our efforts in establishing Youth Hubs to support
access to entitlements are very successful.
