Collaborative Effort of HCV, VO and Panchayat Leading to Change (Upla Village, Rajpur)
The Health Change Vectors Nirma, Jamna, and Keshma took responsibility to work on health nutrition
issues in Upla village. After getting trained on health and collective actions to make local governance
accountable for improving the health system. They understood the power of raising demand in a
collaborative way. They started participating in the Village Organization (VO) and Village Health, Sanitation
and Nutrition Committee (VHSNC) meetings and shared their observation points and concerns that need
immediate action. Major issues discussed were road construction, waste disposal issues, menstruation,
anemia in adolescents, and malnourishment prevailing in children up to 5years of distribution of IFA
tablets. They understood that if they collectively raise their voice at panchayat level including the Front
Line Workers (FLWs) they will be able to make the desirable change.
Later they together bring the highlighted issues in notice to panchayats and decided to take the issue and
present in the upcoming Gram Sabha. Before presenting, they called a joint meeting where they drafted
their priorities which need to be solved at first and took concerns of all signatories. Panchayat appreciated
the move and assured of the relevant action. The VO members, Health CVs and VHSNC committees are
taking regular follow up with the Panchayat since then.
