Health and Wellness Centres (HWCs) Strengthening:
Comprehensive Primary Health Care

The Health & Wellness Centre is the pillar of Ayushman Bharat. The centre is designed to cover
Comprehensive Primary Health care (CPHC) for maternal and child health services and
non-communicable diseases with an emphasis on health promotion and prevention. It will help bring the
health services closer to the rural people. In Jharkhand, 1640 (out of 3958 HSCs) health facilities have been
upgraded. With close collaboration with district administration in the project area, our approach was to
identify the gaps and establish model HWCs which can be easily replicated across the state.

One of the major findings of the assessement was
that the HWCs did not have the provision of Bio Medical
Waste Disposal.
A plan has been proposed for strenghtening Bio Medical
waste Management in all HWCs. Gol has agreed in
principle to support.
