Dow India
Staying on Course
with FASTRACK™
For a country that is building a vast web of
roads that run for thousands of kilometers,
cost and performance are not the only
considerations; sustainability of material and
its environmental impact are also important.
The United Nations points to this need in
emerging economies and calls for ‘making
cities and human settlements inclusive, safe,
resilient and sustainable’, through its SDG
#11. In this context, use of fast-drying,

environmentally sustainable road markings
that can withstand heavy rains and
temperature fluctuations becomes important.
Dow’s water-based road marking paints such
as FASTRACK™ contain 8 to 10 times less
solvent than conventional traffic paint. They
are not flammable, not hazardous and do
not release high quantities of volatile organic
compounds (VOCs) into the air. Regular
road striping is a top priority that keeps
drivers safely on track by producing a
bright, reflective line while leaving a smaller
environmental footprint. Dow Coating
Materials (DCM) conducted a Life Cycle
Assessment (LCA) to compare the
environmental and human health impacts
of high-build road striping facilitated by
FASTRACK HD-21A Waterborne Binder
versus hot melt thermoplastic.
DCM’s Patented FASTRACK™ Quick-Set
Technology accelerates the drytime of
waterborne traffic paint, offering faster
drying and faster return to service even under
adverse conditions, such as low temperature,
high humidity and low air movement. The
product is being well received in the country
and was recommended by the 76th Annual
Roads Congress.
