CSR COMPENDIUM 41 Creating Value, Transforming Lives 41
With a large section of India’s population living
below the poverty line, access to affordable
healthcare services remains a big challenge.
Infection cycles triggered by lack of hygienic living
conditions, lack of access to potable water and
poor sanitation facilities further compound this
challenge. With almost 72% infants in rural India
being anemic and another 44% being
underweight, child malnutrition is yet another
cause for concern. In this backdrop, Government
of India continues to place emphasis on providing
universal access to good quality, yet affordable
healthcare services. As per the National Health
Policy, 2017, the aim is to increase the
Government's healthcare expenditure as a
percentage of GDP from the current 1.15% to 2.5%
by 2025.
For a country of 1.3 billion people, a large
percentage of which reside in villages, reaching
good quality healthcare facilities to every citizen
is a tall order. This challenge is magnified in the
context of immobile patients living in remote
villages.CFCL however, changed this landscape
by engaging a prominent NGO to deliver its
services to 26 villages, 41 Aanganwadis,
44 Schools and 5 ITIs’.
With this partnership, under our Arogya Project,
we aspire to improve the health of 25,000
residents of villages in our neighborhood. Focused
on taking the health index of villages under our
ambit to the next level, Arogya adopts a holistic
approach - from giving primary care to eliminating
diseases, identifying specific ailments to delivering
critical patient care, the project creates an entire
healthcare ecosystem.
We understand that preventive healthcare directly
improves health, well-being and productivity of
individuals, entire families as well as communities.
It also gives the disadvantaged and marginalized
citizens a chance to improve their quality of life.
