companies and several SMEs too. Yet, Rajasthan’s youth face the challenge of finding sustainable
livelihood. Ironically, this challenge is triggered by a lack of adequate technical training infrastructure, in a
country that boasts a vast network of public and private ITIs (Industrial Training Institutes). Set up by the
Government,in early 1950s, to provide technical training in various trades, the ITI’s have largely remained
laggards.
CFCL’s Project Saksham was launched with a view of making Rajasthan’s youth employable and building an
ecosystem of empowerment with scale and speed.

Starting with ITI Sangod in 2011, over the last eight
years, we have adopted five ITI’s under a PPP agreement
with the Government of Rajasthan. Located in Sangod,
Sultanpur, Baran, Jhalawar and Khanpur these
institutions train over 1300 youngsters in ten different
trades annually. Project Saksham has been
institutionalized through an Institute Management
Committee, which comprises of members from the
Industry partner and Government departments and is
chaired by a Senior Executive of CFCL. A student
representative on the committee helps address the
students' concerns.
Students are prepared for the industry in workshops
equipped with tools for scientific & technological
research, experiments & measurement as well as
exposure to “Fire & Safety” and “Occupational Health &
First Aid” requirements. Holistic development is
encouraged with sports training, personality
development and inculcating principals of excellence,
self-reliance & collaboration.
Project Saksham began with transforming ITI Sangod
into a highly sought after institution. Building new
infrastructure, installation of new equipment and
provision of computers motivated over 400 youth to
enroll in this ITI. Within the first year of adopting this
Industrial Training Institute, we introduced new trades
including COPA, Mechanic Electronics, Electrician and
Wireman. We have also ensured that fully equipped
workshops for these trades, as well as others such as
fitter, welder, diesel mechanics are available in our ITI's.
Choice of four new trades encouraged students from
neighboring areas to flock to this ITI. As students received
quality training, results leapfrogged to almost 100% in the
first year of adoption.
